Most Ohio pre-meds applying to medical school use AMCAS for MD programs and AACOMAS for DO programs. If you are applying to both, you need to manage two separate application systems simultaneously. This is one of the most logistically complex aspects of applying to medical school as an Ohio resident.
The key is to treat them as two separate applications that happen to share some content. Your personal statement can be adapted for both systems, but the AMCAS school-specific essays are entirely separate from AMCAS secondary essays. You will need to write unique content for each Ohio school through AMCAS in addition to your AMCAS secondaries.
Budget your time accordingly. In the spring of your junior year, you should be working on your personal statement, your AMCAS school-specific essays, your AMCAS activity list, and your letters of recommendation simultaneously. This is a significant workload — start early.
