The Problem I Kept Seeing
After more than a decade inside medicine and academia, Dr. Mario Tomei kept watching the same thing happen. Students with real potential, genuine clinical experience, and authentic stories were being pushed through impersonal advising pipelines that treated their futures like a transaction. Applications came out sounding identical. Personal statements read like templates. And too many deserving students walked away with rejection letters they should never have received.
Why MedTrackMentors Exists
MedTrackMentors was built as the direct answer to that failure. Not a career counselor who read a book about admissions — but a practicing physician and university professor who has lived every stage of the journey he now helps others navigate. Dr. Tomei has sat on the academic side of the table. He knows how admissions committees think, what they look for beyond grades, and where applicants consistently fall short — not because of lack of ability, but lack of direction.
What Makes This Different
Large advising firms are built for volume. They assign advisors based on availability and cycle students through standardized checklists. That kind of guidance doesn’t just fail students — it actively harms them by flattening the very qualities that make an applicant memorable.
At MedTrackMentors, every student works directly with Dr. Tomei. No associates. No junior advisors. The physician-professor who built this practice is the one in every session.
How We Work With Students
→ Pre-Med Students — Building a roadmap before the application cycle opens. Shadowing, research, course selection, and community engagement become a cohesive narrative rather than a disconnected list.
→ PA School Applicants — PA admissions is a distinct process with its own culture and expectations. Dr. Tomei helps students articulate their commitment to the PA profession authentically and present clinical hours in ways that resonate with PA-specific committees.
→ Personal Statement — Not editing. Unlocking. Dr. Tomei asks the questions that surface stories students haven’t thought to tell, transforming a good essay into one that stays with a reader.
→ Interview Preparation — Not memorizing answers. Becoming so grounded in your own story that you can walk into any format — traditional, MMI, or panel — and respond with confidence and authenticity.
Who We Serve
From freshmen building their foundation, to post-baccalaureate reapplicants, to non-traditional career changers — Dr. Tomei understands that the path to healthcare is not linear. Some of the strongest future physicians and PAs are the ones whose journeys required real resilience. This practice honors that complexity rather than penalizing it.
The Mission
Every student who wants to become a physician, PA, or healthcare professional deserves guidance shaped around who they actually are — not who a formula says they should be.
That is what MedTrackMentors was built to create.
Dr. Mario Tomei is a physician, educator, and admissions strategist with over 25 years of experience in healthcare and more than a decade in academia. Through clinical practice he has brought real-world insight into the demands, expectations, and realities of patient care.
In academia, Dr. Tomei serves as a professor of medical sciences, teaching across a wide range of disciplines including pathophysiology, physiology, microbiology, pharmacology, and neuroscience. He has held faculty appointments at institutions such as Adelphi University, St Johns University, South Carolina University and Hofstra Northwell, where he is actively involved in graduate and professional healthcare education. His work extends beyond the classroom into simulation-based training, curriculum development, and academic leadership.
Dr. Tomei also brings direct experience from the admissions side of healthcare education. Through his involvement with professional school admissions processes and his extensive mentorship of pre-med and pre-health students, he has developed a deep understanding of what distinguishes successful applicants. Each year, he works closely with students to build strategic, personalized pathways that translate academic potential into competitive applications.
As the founder of MedTrackMentors, Dr. Tomei integrates his clinical expertise, academic leadership, and admissions insight to provide high-level, individualized mentorship. His approach is rooted in strategy, clarity, and long-term development guiding students not only toward acceptance, but toward becoming future leaders in healthcare.

Gluck, M.D., former Chief of Hand Surgery at Long Island Jewish/Northwell, is presently Associate Professor at the Hofstra-Northwell School of Nursing and Physician Assistant Studies, and has served as well on the faculty of the Zucker School of Medicine and the Hofstra School of Health Sciences. Two time Teacher-of-the-Year, Dr. Gluck has served on admission committees for various healthcare programs, and has extensive experience mentoring pre-health career students, including by way of a seminar entitled “Perspectives on Healthcare”. He serves as co-host of the podcast “Nurse to Health”.
