New York City offers exceptional opportunities for premed students, but access to major hospitals, research institutions and competitive universities does not automatically produce a successful medical school application. Applicants still need a clear academic plan, meaningful experiences, an appropriate MCAT timeline and a compelling application narrative.
MedTrack Mentors provides personalized, physician-led medical school admissions guidance to students throughout Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and Staten Island. Every student works directly with Dr. Mario Tomei, MD, MBA, MHA, CHSE — a physician, university professor and former admissions committee member with more than 25 years in healthcare and more than 20 years in higher education.
Meet with Dr. Mario Tomei for a free 20-minute application audit — covering your preparation, application strategy, and next steps.

MedTrack Mentors does not have formal partnerships with any of these institutions.
Applicants should generally build a balanced national MD and/or DO school list rather than applying only to medical schools located in New York City. A well-constructed list includes programs across the country that match your academic profile, clinical background and career interests.

New York City has a large number of hospitals, academic medical centers, community health centers, research institutions and service organizations where premed students may independently investigate volunteering, scribing, research and shadowing opportunities. Institutions such as NewYork-Presbyterian, NYU Langone, Mount Sinai Health System, NYC Health + Hospitals and Montefiore Health System are examples students can explore on their own. MedTrack Mentors does not have partnerships with any of these organizations and does not guarantee placements. The goal is to help you identify meaningful experiences and present them compellingly in your application.
Dr. Tomei brings the perspective of someone who has sat on the other side of the admissions table. His guidance is grounded in how committees actually evaluate applications — not in generic advice or templates.
